Condolence to former rhythmic gymnastics champion of Greece

The international community of gymnastics mourn the loss of former rhythmic gymnastics champion Anna Pollatou (photo GRE), who was killed in a car crash on the Patras - Pyrgos highway in the afternoon of Saturday, May 17th. She was 30 years old.

Anna Pollatou was born on October 8th 1983 in Kefalonia and started her career at the AGS Eptanison gymnastics club. She stood out for her talent and got to become a member of the most successful group in the history of Greek rhythmic gymnastics. As a part of the group which aptly got the nickname ‘the golden girls’ by the Greek media, Pollatou won two gold and one silver medal at the 1999 World Championships in Osaka, as well as three gold medals at the 1999 European Championships in Budapest. One year later, she added to her tally the precious bronze medal at the Sydney Olympic Games, thus concluding a great career.
Pollatou officially retired in 2001, with just 17 years of age, but never got too far from the sport she adored. She constantly served as an ambassador for the annual Gymnastics for All International Festival of her island, Kefalonia, and during the last years she worked as a coach at Megara, trying to provide the Greek gymnastics with a young generation of champions.

The Malaysiagym blog  and Arbakgym Malaysia express sympathies and deep condolences to the Family, Friends and to the Hellenic Gymnastics Federation.
